Redaction in PDFs is a two-stage process. First, the content to be removed is marked with redaction annotations. Second, the redaction annotations are applied, permanently removing the content from the marked regions.
Your users can select content manually, or you can use the API to find all data matching a specific pattern to redact credit card numbers, social security numbers, email addresses, and more.
By default, redactions appear as a black box, but they can also be fully customized with options for fill and border colors, as well as filler text.
Before changes are applied, the redaction annotations can be previewed or, optionally, commented on and sent to other stakeholders using the Replies component (if licensed).
By applying the changes, the redacted data will be permanently and securely removed from the document.
